The AIRR Community is pleased to announce that it has started a Webinar Series. Webinars will include current AIRR-related topics as well as tutorials. The inaugural Webinar is on “Steps in data processing and analysis of adaptive immune receptor repertoires: best practices, pitfalls, and future directions” by Prof. Victor Greiff, University of Oslo (Norway), April 6, 2021. The Seminar is free, available on-demand and on the AIRR YouTube channel.
The AIRR-C Diagnostics Working Group recently published a manuscript on using the immunome for blood testing in Frontiers in Immunology. In the manuscript, the AIRR-C discusses opportunities as well as the current state of immunome-based diagnostics and highlights some of the challenges involved. The authors conclude with a call to clinicians, researchers, and others to join efforts AIRR-C to realize the diagnostic potential of the immunome. In the paper, the researchers define immunome as “millions of V(D)J-rearranged antibody and T cell receptor genes collectively expressed by a person’s B cells (antibodies) and T cells”.

The Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen (Germany) is looking for PIs working in the AIRR-seq space to take on intern students. The internship should be a short scientific project spanning 8 weeks to 6 months. The application process starts in March and the internship is expected to start in October to December. The Comms SC is interested in helping to facilitate matchmaking between PIs and students to engage in AIRR internship exchanges and this is the first step in that process.

The AIRR Community is excited to announce that the Immcantation Framework has been certified as compliant with the AIRR-C v1.0 standard for AIRR-Seq software tools.
In an effort to enable rigorous and reproducible immune repertoire research at the largest scale possible, the AIRR-C Software Working Group has established a standard to validate software tools using the AIRR-C Standards and meeting a series of interoperability and quality criteria. Developers interested in certifying their tools should complete the checklist and submit it to the AIRR-C Software Working Group for evaluation and ratification by its members.

All compliant tools will be issued a badge and listed on the website AIRR Software WG – List of Tools Certified as Compliant.
The fifth AIRR Community meeting (#AIRRC5) was held virtually Dec 8–10, 2020. The theme of this meeting was “Zooming in to the AIRR Community” connecting the global AIRR research community despite the pandemic for a series of Working Group & Sub-committee presentations, scientific sessions, interactive poster sessions, software tool demonstrations and networking events.
AIRR Community meetings are the premier event for research on adaptive immune-receptor repertoires. They are also the primary location where the AIRR-Community’s Working Groups and Sub-committees come together in one location to discuss how to push standardization in AIRR-sequencing (AIRR-seq) data and analysis forward.
